CSI ART MUSINGS
By Jane Martin
So you can’t draw a straight line... believe it or not that’s a good thing. Look around you, hardly anything has straight lines. The things that appeal to us generally have soft lines with flowing movement. The artist’s soft, flowing lines invite us into a painting, or world we would want to explore. So, whether it is painting or drawing, there are seldom straight, rigid lines. Come join our Spring classes and let us open the doors to your new adventure!
Jean Humphrey is teaching the Thursday class in February from 9:00 AM - Noon. February will be dedicated mostly to portrait work.
Christine Angele will be teaching in March - Thursday from 9:00 AM - Noon. She will begin with a demonstration March 1, followed by a class on the “Old Masters” techniques. This is a first for us... what a treat. We are looking forward to the class.
Nancy Bodden is teaching home school classes every other Wednesday. Call her at 409- 429-6442 to schedule classes. Nancy will also be teaching beginner oils on Wednesdays from 9 am - noon. She will also teach an evening class if enough students are interested.
I, Jane Martin, will be coming out of semi-retirement and starting new classes in March for two classes: one in oils and one in pastels.
In April, we invite you to an OIL PAINTING-BLUEBONNET WORKSHOP with Lee Meriwether. It will be held APRIL 7, from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Lee has over 30 years of painting experience and is mainly self taught. She has experimented with many approaches to painting, with her preferred style being a negative painting approach, simplifying and abstracting forms from nature. Favorite subjects are landscapes, florals and wildlife scenes. Her schedule includes art classes, workshops, shows and painting demonstrations for civic and art groups. She also judges art shows for various leagues and community art functions. Supplies for the workshop are a 16 x 20 (or smaller) canvas (canvas should have a pale orange or peach stain); paints, brushes, odorless turpentine and Liquin. You can contact Lee at 409-565-2032 or tleemer@earthlink.net.
The CSI Group Campout is also scheduled for April, probably around the 18th; so start making plans to join us. We will be at Sandy Creek again and hoping for nice weather. We had a really nice time last fall. It was a little cool in the mornings, but we still painted and took lots of photographs. The “burn ban” was on so we weren’t able to have a fire. Some of the husbands came for breakfast in the mornings and fished and then went home in the evenings, we really appreciated their help.
If you are interested in an art adventure and we are not covering it, please call the gallery and let us know. We will be glad to accommodate you.
